What you will learn during a mountain bike clinic

Mountain biking is about more than just speed or power. It's about technique, control and confidence on any terrain. During a mountain bike clinic, you will learn step by step how to develop your skills. From a strong foundation, we build towards increasingly complex techniques. Whether you are just starting out or already have some experience, there is always something to learn.

1. Basic technique: control from the first moment

The right stance, balance and braking technique are the foundation of every mountain biker. In this phase, you will learn:

  • Bike posture: stable and efficient climbing, descending and cornering
  • Balance: improve via exercises such as track stands and slow riding
  • Braking: controlled dosage without losing grip
  • Switching: smooth and at the right moment

When this foundation is in place, you lay the foundation for everything that follows.

2. Cornering: technique for flow and speed

Cornering is one of the most important skills on the trail. You will learn:

  • Body position: stable and active in the right line
  • Gaze direction: looking = driving
  • Line selection: the smartest route through bends and obstacles

This will not only make you faster, but also much more fluid in your driving style.

3. Climbing and descending: master every slope

In this section, we focus on your technique at altitude:

  • Climbing: proper weight distribution and traction on steep sections
  • Descending: balance, brake control and the right moment to trust your bike

With these skills you will ride up and down in a controlled way and with pleasure.

4. Obstacles & advanced techniques

Once you have mastered the basics, you will move on to more challenging techniques:

  • Drop-offs: riding small drop-offs safely and in a controlled manner
  • Pumping: generating speed without pedalling
  • Wheel lift & bunny hop: lifting the front wheel at the right moment
  • Technique on roots, stones and narrow lines: smooth riding on rough terrain

These skills give you freedom and confidence on technical trails.

5. Safety, equipment & trail behaviour

Mountain biking is done with good equipment and with respect for the environment:

  • Equipment choice: helmet, tyre pressure, suspension and clothing
  • Maintenance: keeping your bike in top condition
  • Trail etiquette: consideration for other trail users

6. Self-confidence and mindset

A clinic is also a mental workout. You learn:

  • Recognising and pushing your limits
  • Dealing with tension in unfamiliar territory
  • Cycling with focus and fun

Level check MTB Travel

The level of a trip depends on your mastery of Fundamental MTB skills (blue) and Technique (red).

Foundation

You will master the fundamentals of mountain biking if you know how to apply the following techniques with confidence: Basic, Attack and Flow stance, effective braking and at speed come turns as well as flat turns. Loose ground is no problem for you and you also ride over obstacles and ride rolling drops with confidence.

Technique (Flow and Obstacles)

With flow techniques, you know how to maintain and create speed. You master fast turns and drop techniques (push and jump). You make line choices while riding, use the Pedal-kick and ride Off-Camber. You ride technical climbs and descents with sharp turns with confidence, as well as jumps and root passages.

Still having trouble choosing or are you still in doubt? We are happy to guide you to get the most out of your next MTB trip. To this end, we have developed a clear, constructive clinic programme. Of course, this includes the fundamental techniques that are so important that you really need to master them.
